Inaugural Southern California Law Firm Golf Championship

  • Industry Hills Golf Club 1 Industry Hills Parkway City of Industry, CA 91744 (map)

Represent your firm and support a great cause at our inaugural “Just for Lawyers” Southern California Law Firm Golf Championship on Industry Hills Golf Club’s famous “Ike” Course —home to many U.S. Open Qualifying tournaments. Form a foursome of current and retired colleagues and compete against other firms.

Space is limited. RSVP today!

The rules are designed to make this tournament— unlike other charity events — truly competitive.

The winning firm will receive the Southern California Heroes Linked 2024 Champion Law Firm Trophy, engraved with the firm’s name, to display (and unlimited bragging rights) until the firm defends its championship in the 2025 tournament.

Participating is a unique opportunity for golfing lawyers and their firms to harness their competitive drives in support of a fantastic cause.

This competitive tournament will be held simultaneously within the Heroes Linked’s 16th annual Golf Classic Tournament field.

Rules of the Southern California Law Firm Golf Championship

The Heroes Linked Chief Judge has designed these rules to maximize the competition between law firms.

Teams

  • Only current or retired members of a firm are eligible to play.

  • Firms of 6 or more members must each field at least one foursome.

  • Firms of 5 or fewer members may field a combined firm foursome.

Indexes and handicaps

  • All players must have an established index.

  • If a player does not have an established index, you must note it on the registration form. The Heroes Linked Southern California Law Firm Championship Chief Judge will interview the golfer and assign them a fair handicap based on their golfing experience.

  • The maximum index that any player may have is 24.

  • The foursome’s index shall be determined by adding the four indexes together and dividing the total by four. Any fractions below .5 will be rounded down; any .5 or higher will be rounded up.

Logistics

To keep this event competitive and avoid the loose scoring that seemingly always accompanies charity scramble-type tournaments:

  • Each foursome registered by a firm will be split into two twosomes, known as Team A and Team B.

  • Then the Team A twosome from one firm will be paired with the Team A twosome from a different firm forming a foursome that comprises two twosomes from two different firms. This will reduce creative scoring.

  • Each twosome team will play a scramble, choosing the best of their two drives. Then both teammates will play their second shots. The same format will follow on each succeeding shot, including putts. The team will record their gross score on their scorecard.

Scoring

  • A triple bogey is the maximum gross score a team can take on a hole.

  • Putts inside the leather are good.

  • The twosome team’s net score will be determined by taking their foursome team’s gross score and subtracting the index of the foursome of the twosome that they played with. For example, if the twosome’s gross score is 91 and the foursome’s index is 12, the twosome team’s net score will be 79.

  • To calculate the score of each foursome registered by a firm, we will combine the scores of its Team A and Team B. For example, if Team A had a net score of 79 and Team B had a net score of 86, the firm’s foursome’s score would be 165. The firm foursome with the lowest total will be the champion.

  • If there is a tie for first place, there will be a playoff, which all players can observe.

Special Mulligan Rules

Putting Mulligan

  • Each twosome may purchase one putting Mulligan per side (e.g., one on the front nine holes and a second on the back nine). Putting Mulligans are $50 each.

  • The putting Mulligan can only be used on one of two holes on that side. The holes will be the two that the Club Pro designates as the most difficult on that side and will be announced just before the tournament begins. Either member of the twosome can take the putting Mulligan.

Driving Mulligan

  • Each twosome may purchase one driving Mulligan per side (e.g., one on the front nine holes and a second on the back nine). Driving Mulligans are $50 each.

  • The driving Mulligan can only be used on one of the two holes (one per side) that the Club Pro designates as the most difficult driving holes on that side. These will be announced just before the tournament begins. Either member of the twosome can take the driving Mulligan.
