Beneficiaries

There are many requirements that charities must meet to receive funding from the MVAT Foundation. Acting as a fiduciary for our donors, the beneficiary selection process is deliberative. MVAT’s Beneficiaries Committee analyzes funding proposals under such criteria as organizational financial health, program efficiencies and outcomes, and good governance practices. Emphasis is placed on smaller organizations or is restricted to specific programs where the MVAT grant can make a material difference in that group’s ability to carry out their Veterans support activities.

Thousands of wounded warriors needing ongoing care at specialized medical facilities are able to reach their destinations thanks to air travel provided by Air Compassion for Veterans.

The Greater Los Angeles Chapter of the Association of the United States Army (GLAC AUSA) is comprised of currently serving Soldiers (National Guard, U.S. Army Reserve, and regular Army) and their families, Veterans, and many others who support the Army. GLAC AUSA aims to ensure that every member of the Greater Los Angeles area Army community – past, present and future – receives the benefits they earned and the support they need through a variety of programs including the MVAT Foundation-supported Family Programs.

The Congressional Medal of Honor Foundation, founded by the Congressional Medal of Honor Society, which consists exclusively of the living Medal of Honor recipients, perpetuates the Medal of Honor’s legacy through outreach and collaborative efforts including the MVAT Foundation-supported Character Development Program.

The Gary Sinise Foundation honors America’s defenders, Veterans, first responders, their families, and those in need through creating and supporting unique programs designed to entertain, educate, inspire, strengthen, and build communities.

The Green Beret Foundation provides immediate financial assistance to Green Berets who are injured in the line of duty, to their families, and to the families of the fallen. The foundation also distribute funds to support the extended care an injured Green Beret requires in the event the Veteran’s Administration is unable or unwilling as well as assists Green Berets in their transition from active duty.

Habitat for Humanity of Greater Los Angeles is dedicated to making homeownership possible for low-income, hardworking families and individuals. And, through the MVAT Foundation-supported Habitat for Heroes Veterans initiative, military members and Veterans in need receive home repairs and renovations.

Folds of Honor provides educational support to the spouses and children of America’s fallen and wounded soldiers.

Pikes Peak Suicide Prevention provides support groups are for anyone who is struggling with thoughts of suicide or has survived a suicide attempt as well as providing support services for family and friends of suicide attempters. The Support Services Program in El Paso County was renamed in memory of U.S. Army Lt. Jeffrey Graham and Senior ROTC Cadet Kevin Graham. Kevin suffered from depression and took his own life on June 21, 2003 after discontinuing use of his medication. Jeffrey was killed in action Feb 19, 2004 in Khaldiyah, Iraq.

JVS Veterans First helps Veterans of the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan by providing professional career coaching, assessments to identify transferable skills, training in high growth career sectors plus job placement assistance. Participants connect with other veterans through the program’s networking groups, workshops and events. The Veterans First team also provides referrals to maximize veterans’ benefits, services and training opportunities.

K9s For Warriors is dedicated to providing service canines to warriors suffering from Post-traumatic Stress Disability, traumatic brain injury and/or military sexual trauma as a result of military service post 9/11 with the goal to empower them to return to civilian life with dignity and independence.

Monterey Bay Veterans is a volunteer based organization that integrates the physically challenged Veterans community into normal daily activities and recreation through a wide variety of marine and land based services and activities. This is accomplished by accommodating and challenging physical limitations and reducing emotional stress through social integration.

The Navy SEAL Foundation provides immediate and ongoing support and assistance to the Naval Special Warfare Community and its families.

New Directions for Veterans is a licensed, long-term drug and alcohol treatment program founded by formerly homeless Veterans, which has been providing food, shelter, support and rehabilitation since 1992 to more than 600 Veterans each year through its outreach program and at three different residential treatment centers.

The Pathway Home, Inc. provides comprehensive treatment for America’s military personnel who have served in Iraq and Afghanistan, assisting those impacted by Post Traumatic Stress (PTS), Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI), and other post-combat mental health challenges to successfully reintegrate into their families and the community at large.

Snowball Express creates a weekend of events to connect the children and surviving spouses of the fallen with others going through the same experience. The children who attend the annual events walk away knowing they are not alone, and that their parent’s sacrifice made while serving America is honored. Snowball Express is a program of the Airpower Foundation, which supports active duty, reserve and National Guard families and carries out projects to assist wounded warriors, veterans of previous wars, and education of future generations.

Shelter to Soldier rescues dogs from an otherwise uncertain future in local shelters and trains them to become psychiatric service dogs for post-9/11 combat veterans suffering from Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI) and/or other psychological injuries associated with traumatic service experiences.
